A Walk Between Storms

I'm definitely a sunshine/hot weather/sitting out on the porch freak, but there's something about the storms of November that urge me outside. I am a stay-at-home Grandma, taking care of my little grandson 5 days a week while my daughter-in-law works, and I try to take him out for a walk whenever the weather allows. We've suffered a bit from cabin fever the past week or so, but yesterday we got out for a walk and it felt so GOOD! It was a little brisk, a little breezy, but we walked from my house in the general area of Franklin High School to Fred Meyer over on 82nd and Foster. I don't know how many miles that added up to, but we stopped and watched dump trucks and backhoes at different construction sites, squirrels streaking up trees and telephone poles. And in getting outside quite a bit, it amazes me how many young dads are out during weekdays walking THEIR babies. House husbands? Or shift workers? I don't know. But it's such a sweet sight, a young father walking along with his little one tucked against his chest in a Snuggli. And all of them are friendly, glad to spot another adult to say "Hello" to. The long section of park-like area along SE 72nd Avenue between Foster and Holgate is especially pretty at this time of year. And even when a few raindrops fell? Well, this is Oregon... and Portland is beautiful even in the rain.
